Sono is the first company providing the fish genome editing service in the cultured fish industry to develop fish cell lines that are safe to consume as food, proliferate and differentiate efficiently at industrial scales.
Sono aims to be a part of the ecosystem to develop tools and methods, so more companies can bring culture fish to consumers.
OUR TECHNOLOGY
The high cost is the key barrier for cultured fish to achieving widespread adoption. Current animal-derived growth factors are expensive, unethical and not suitable for fish cells. Mammalian cells can be cultured without serum and has been done routinely in the biopharmaceutical industry.
Sono’s approach lowers the cost of cultured fish production, ensures food safety and quality control. Sono’s culture media is free of animal-derived products, so animal cruelty of any form is eliminated in the process.
